Canine Parvovirus

Dr Katrina Warren was on Channel 9’s Today show today to warn pet owners of the risk of their pets contracting the disease, Canine Parvovirus. This is a highly contagious disease that affects a pet’s gastrointestinal system. Canine Parvovirus is spread through dog faeces, and can lie dormant in the soil for up to two years. This could make your local dog park, beach, or dirt running track a danger to an UNVACCINATED dog!

Canine Parvovirus is endemic in Australia. Currently there are outbreaks in the Northern Territory and Queensland, but there was an outbreak in Sydney last year. Symptoms to watch out for in your dogs are severe lethargy; vomiting; and the sudden onset of diarrhoea, often with blood.

Please make sure that you vaccinate your furbabies, and keep them up to date!
